“Magiatiko” is Martha’s second collaboration with legendary folk violinist Stathis Koukoularis. It contains folk songs from the Aegean and Asia Minor as well as Martha’s new compositions.

“Thread and Needle” is an a cappella album that pays tribute to the vocal traditions of Greece. Folk songs from different parts of Greece arranged for vocal ensemble, and new a cappella compositions make up a musical mosaic that celebrates human voice and its role in the music of the Balkans.

Martha Mavroidi uses her voice to create multiple musical layers, simulating an entire orchestra by means of vocal sounds. In this album she has collaborated with ECM artist Savina Yannatou, the Bulgarian vocal ensemble Eva Quartet, the new Greek a cappella group Yasemi Quartet, the frontman of the 30-year old group Heimerinoi Kolymvites, Argyris Bakirtzis, and Irini Derebei, singer in the projects of Jordi Savall.

Apart from the singers, she has invited two outstanding musicians, world-class percussionist Vangelis Karipis (with collaborations with Ara Dinkjian, Theodosii Spassov and Omar Faruk Tekbilek) and extraordinary qanun player Tasos Poulios, asking them to use their voice as an instrument, and “translate” their musical experience of their respective instruments onto the voice.

In addition to professional musicians, the album features author Gabriel Pentzikis reciting a text by his father Nicos Pentzikis, one of Greece’s most mystical authors, a choir of amateur singers, and a baby experimenting with his voice. The album reads like a tale of two characters: a child playing with her voice, and a professional musician “playing” the voice.

“Η Κλωστή και το Βελόνι” είναι ένας δίσκος αποκλειστικά με φωνητικές συνθέσεις. Παραδοσιακά κομμάτια από διάφορα μέρη της Ελλάδας διασκευασμένα για φωνητικό σύνολο, αλλά και νέες συνθέσεις γραμμένες για φωνές a cappella, συνθέτουν ένα μουσικό μωσαϊκό με πρωταγωνιστή την ανθρώπινη φωνή. Στα δεκατέσσερα κομμάτια του δίσκου την θέση των οργάνων παίρνει η φωνή, αναλαμβάνοντας όλους του μουσικούς ρόλους, από την μελωδία και την αρμονία μέχρι και την ρυθμική συνοδεία.

Η Μάρθα Μαυροειδή χρησιμοποιεί την φωνή της για να χτίσει πολλαπλά μουσικά επίπεδα, δημιουργώντας μια ορχήστρα από φωνές. Σε αυτόν τον δίσκο συνεργάζεται με την Σαβίνα Γιαννάτου, το βουλγάρικο πολυφωνικό σχήμα Eva Quartet, το νέο φωνητικό σχήμα Κουαρτέτο Γιασεμί, τον Αργύρη Μπακιρτζή και την Ειρήνη Δερέμπεη.

Εκτός από τους τραγουδιστές, στον δίσκο συμμετέχουν και δύο σημαντικοί μουσικοί, ο περκασιονίστας Βαγγέλης Καρίπης και ο κανονιέρης Τάσος Πούλιος, χρησιμοποιώντας την φωνή τους σαν μουσικό όργανο, και μεταφέροντας την εμπειρία τους από τις τεχνικές των παραδοσιακών οργάνων στη φωνή.

Τις συμμετοχές του δίσκου συμπληρώνουν ο συγγραφέας Γαβριήλ Πεντζίκης ο οποίος απαγγέλλει ένα κείμενο του πατέρα του Νίκου Πεντζίκη, μια χορωδία και ένα μωρό που βγάζει τους πρώτους ήχους με την φωνή του. Ο δίσκος ακούγεται σαν ένα παραμύθι με δύο πρωταγωνιστές: έναν μουσικό που παίζει φωνή, και ένα παιδί που παίζει με την φωνή του.

“Agiorgitiko” a collaboration with the legendary violinist Stathis Koukoularis, released by Violins Productions.

Stathis Koukoularis is one of Greece’s most important folk musicians. Born in the island of Naxos, he is one of the foremost exponents of island music in Greece, having recorded over 4000 pieces of folk music. In this album he collaborates with Martha Mavroidi, a folk singer and lutist of the new generation. The album contains folk songs from the Aegean islands and from Asia Minor, as well as a new composition by Stathis Koukoularis and Martha Mavroidi.

Μία μουσική σύμπραξη με τον Ναξιώτη βιολιστή Στάθη Κουκουλάρη.

Ο Στάθης Κουκουλάρης είναι ένας από τους πιο σημαντικούς Έλληνες παραδοσιακούς μουσικούς. Με καταγωγή από τον Κινίδαρο της Νάξου, και πάνω από 4000 ηχογραφήσεις στο ενεργητικό του, είναι ένας από τους σπουδαιότερους εκπροσώπους της νησιώτικης μουσικής παράδοσης. Σε αυτό το δίσκο συνεργάζεται με την Μάρθα Μαυροειδή, παρουσιάζοντας παραδοσιακά τραγούδια και σκοπούς από τα νησιά του Αιγαίου και τη Μικρά Ασία, καθώς και μία σύνθεση του ίδιου σε στίχους Μάρθας Μαυροειδή.
